Greetings,

Just an fyi for those interested. Maybe Borland will see it, maybe they
won't.

I got my start (after assembly) with Borland's Turbo C. I was, I think 14
at the time. I paid hard earned money, of my own, to snag a copy of that.
I think it was on like 4 1.44 meg floppies. I loved programming in C.

Anyway, I say that to underline the fact that Borland does in fact have a
special place in my heart. Now, for the bad.

I started at my current job January of 2004. I joined a team who's sole
assets revolve around Borland Builder 6. I was tasked with writing a data
analysis and XML processor for these assets. Because the project was all
Builder, I took it up, learned it and pressed on.

Now I've found myself at a crossroads and need more functionality than is
available out of the box with Builder and find myself "wanting" more and
more each day.

At any rate, the short of it, is I have submitted to my boss to switch my
portion of the project from C++ to C#. In light of that switch, which has
a lot more reasons than simply how poor a tool Builder 6 is, I will
continue development in VS .NET 2003. Which is simple because my
organization has an ULTRA-SUPER-DUPER MSDN subscription anyway (whatever
the max level is, I don't know :) ).

Of course I _COULD_ campaign for Borland's C# environment, but that's
where being tired of Builder 6 steers me away from it.

I don't have any ill will toward Borland, in fact the exact opposite is
true. But when you've lost faith, you've lost faith.

So that's just my story. Read it if you like, take something away from it
if you like and if not, simply ignore it. I'm sure Borland will. :)

cheers,

tim

Tim,
You are not alone.
We were in a very similar situation at the end of 2004. I myself and my work
collegues were using Borland products since Borland's Turbo days.
We could say that we were very strong Borlanders. BUT at the end of 2004 we
have decided not to use any Borland products for any new projects. We do
NOT trust Borland any more! I think Borland failed not only on BCB support
but it failed on Kylix, BuilderX, VCX, Together, ...
They must change their decision making groups. They need radical mentality
change.
I beleive your group seems to made right decision by dropping Borland.
Cheers,
