Install Shield Express Question....

Hi.

I'm trying to put together an install for a small app.
However, I need to put one of the files in the app. in
the Windows System directory if it is a newer version
of an older file or if the file is nonexistant in the
windows system directory.

However, I have been unable to figure out how to do
this with InstallShield Express.  Is this possible?
I've been unable to find anything in the help file
but that is unsurprising as the help file is more or
less useless.  (It assumes you already know everything
going on so if you are not already familier with InstallSheld
Express, you are lost and if you are familier with ISE, you
don't need the help file. :-)

Anyways, any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-Art

heh, that feels odd, like I'm writting to myself.  Anyways...  Yes
it's possible.  Actually, ISE only replaces files with newer files by
default.  So you have to actually use the Version information of your
project so that on future updates ISE will actually replace the existing
previous files, if you don't it won't replace them..  As of how do you
put something in the system directory?  In the part that is labeled
Specify Components and Files, is where you specify what file groups get
installed where.  If you want a series of files in the system directory
create a group for it and in the destination directory select
<WINSYSDIR>.
I agree, I searched for that information before, and had a hard time
finding it, I pretty much figured it out by Trial and Error,  Eventually
I did find the info (I don't recall where) it it agreed with the results
of my experiments.
  Hope this helps.

Couldn't find it myself. From memory I think you'll find it in the pro
version. Short of that why don't you do a trial run, taking care to not do
it with anything sensitive, and taking backups where necessary. If it don't
work, it don't work.

Select the filegroup you want to modify. Then click the Properties button.
It is all there.
