Delphi DB alias ignored for MS SQL 6.0

Does anyone know how to connect Delphi 1.0 to a MS SQL 6.0 on NT server?
I have had Delphi 2.0 working fine as it asks for the database name in
the BDECFG program. I have to use Delphi 1.0 to deploy to win 3.x users
but can't connect to the correct database on the server. It seems to
ignore the database name specified with the ODBC data source and just
connect to the "master" DB on the DB everytime.
