New Educational Materials - visual materials for visual programming tools

I am interested in how many people feel that with the new
visual programming tools, that we need new forms of
instruction and training.  For a long time, the formula for
programming books has been:

1)Text and discussion - sometimes overly verbose, more
so in recent years of the "big fat book $40.00" than
     in the past.

     2)A Code listing or so

3)Screen shots during the build process

I have been building a set of training materials based on
view graphs largely with diagrams ( not screen shots ,
drawings and stuff like that ) to teach Delphi.  I have
about 140 of them as a first draft of a possible book.
They are easy for an engineer or scientist type to
understand as that is the means by which we often
communicate to our peers in talks.  Many guys would do
anything to avoid regular reading, it is so %#^&&% dull.

Anybody have comments on:

     A) The utility of the current book recipe as a
learning tool?

     B) the desireability of something different?

     c) the desireablility of the materials as described
above?

Oh, there is a pocket guide to Turbo Pascal and the
functions and procedures of Object Pascal as part of the
deal.

Jim,

Sounds interesting. If one book, or style of book, were capable of
explaining programming then I guess I would have only one book. Fact
is, I have about a hundred of them. Some of them explain the same
thing but do so in different styles. That sometimes helps with
understanding a problem.

What you are proposing, is a different style of getting the
information across. That, in and of itself, would be a good thing. I
would look forward to such a book if it beyond the beginner level
(which I smugly claim to be). Best of luck with your plans.
