Installing Interbase Server 6.0 on a Windows 2000 Server CLUSTER

I need help in installing Interbase 6.0 on a Microsoft Cluster.

I am running a police dispatching application called CLERK which implements the Interbase 6.0 (Actually 6.0.0.627, I believe) Server.
I'm trying to set up Interbase Server on two MS 2000 Advanced Server boxes(the database file is on the shared cluster disk) so that the IB Server will fail over(duh) when necessary.

I've installed Interbase Server 6.0 on both computers and tracked down the two services which need to be installed on the virtual server (Interbase Guardian and Interbase Server) as generic services.  Also, I've identified the registry keys which need to be replicated.

The services seem to failover just fine when the time comes, however normal client function does NOT switch over painlessly.  In fact, during failover, any connected IB clients do a pretty good job of locking up.

Has anyone successfully implemented this scenario, or know what settings I may need to change to allow a more forgiving failover.

- Thanks

I haven't heard of IB being (successfully) used on a cluster
configuration - it would be interesting if you got it running as
intended.
Anyhow, you should probably use a newer version than IB/6.0.0.627 - even
though I don't think that will solve your current problems.

AFAIK you cannot do that. Software has to be writtent be "cluster
aware" in order to do what you want and IB is not.

While obviously this is not a the solution you were looking for,
I'd suggest using setting up Interbase in a Linux with OpenAFS
configuration. It's all free and a lot more robust.

Cheers,

There's OpenMosix as well, but I don't think it works well with
Interbase.
