UpDown won't associate with DBEdit

There's a DBEdit1 box on my Form.  I drop an UpDown1 next to it.  In
Object Inspector I click on Associate, find DBEdit1, select it.  But the
Associate field remains empty and, when run, clicking on the Up or the
Down does absolutely nada for the value in DBEdit1.

What's the problem?  Email to me on this would be much appreciated...
