DELPHI: Go away

You know, when this newsgroup was started, I'm sure I read as one of the
opening comments, something like....

"Don't post DELPHI questions here, they don't belong...."

Says it all really does'nt it.

Please please please please please please DELPHI posters, GO AWAY!!!

Get a grip.  First of all Delphi _IS_ Pascal.  Second of all, a
pascal.misc group was just recently created... it will take some time
for all Delphi people to move over there.

I can't believe how upset some people were (are) getting in here.  Like
I mentioned above, Delphi IS Pascal!

The misc group was created at the same time as the borland group, and if
you had read the RFD or CFV or the group creation messages then you would
have noticed that the borland group is *NOT* for delphi

I beg to differ, DELPHI may be like PASCAL, but it is not actually PASCAL.
Calling it PASCAL is like saying that MODULA-2 or MODULA-3 are PASCAL.
Both are VERY VERY similar in structure and use, but are they ACTUALLY
PASCAL?? I don't think so. Sit back and think, would'nt you be slightly
miffed if someone posted a question to this group about MODULA-3 just cos
it's similar?? When I read a newsgroup, I like to read about what the
group descriptor says, if I read uk.forsale, I don't want to read lots
of adverts posted by people outside the UK, why?? because it's a complete
waste of my time!!!

There, I think I've said more than enough on this topic.

No, and neither are any of the Borland dialects inasmuch as they don't
support the standard.  But the point is that the agreement reached and
confirmed by vote was that the BP/TP discussion does belong in this group, and
the Delphi discussion should take place in comp.lang.pascal.misc until its own
groups are created.

"DELPHI go away" posts properly belong in comp.lang.pascal, which will itself
go away in a couple of months ;-).

That is _NOT_ the current issue.

Ah, but you are now in comp.lang.pascal.borland, not in
comp.lang.pascal.

:I can't believe how upset some people were (are) getting in here.  Like

It is not a question of getting upset. The reason is that now is the
critical time to get on topic. At a later stage it will be
inordenately more difficult if things slip at the outset. Believe
me. I know from experience.

:I mentioned above, Delphi IS Pascal!

Like I mentioned above, that point is moot. What counts is the way
the new Pascal groups were officially allocated. Delphi is fine in
comp.lang.lascal.misc, but not in comp.lang.pascal.borland.

   All the best, Timo

P.S. The wording "DELPHI: Go away" is harsh. I would have preferred,
"DELPHI: Use comp.lang.pascal.mics for the time being".

If the Delphi people can make to effort and have the means to move in here
then they sure can just as easily move over to comp.lang.pascal.misc for
the time being!

Well, I like to think we were nicer about it. Where are all of these
evil Delphi posts anyways ? I've seen much more of this "go away.."
discussion than Delphi posts !

Exactly. I would like to point out that:

1) New users are introduced to the internet EVERYDAY.  Imagine that?
They don't come born with instant knowledge of exactly how everything
works.

2) New users are introduced to delphi EVERDAY.  Imagine that?
They might not have been around for this whole flamefest that has
been going on for the last 3-4 months.  They may be unaware of
where exactly to go.  To be honest, comp.lang.pascal.borland has a
big bullseye saying "DELPHI COME HERE!!!!" and people who may be
trying to post to the correct groups will post here inadvertantly.
You are going to have people posting here accidentally until
the delphi groups arrive.

Please don't flame these people.  Just politely point out where
they are supposed to go for information on delphi. Please don't post
childish DELPHI GO AWAY messages either.  I use delphi, but I read
this group to look for more information that TP and BP users may
have already aquired.  Imagine that! I, a delphi user, might be
interested in something you have to say?

I apologize in advance for the sarcasm, it seems that the trend
of usenet degenerating into one very large flame war has finally
gotten on my nerves.  Ahh, the good old days....
