Im buying a new laptop in a few days. Actually i have a AMD Athlon 64

My options are:
1)1.66GHz Intel?Centrino?Core 2 Duo T5500 GeForce Go 7600
2)1.9GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 Technology TL-58 NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150

I doubt if the 1.66 GHz Centrino or the Turion is faster.

i personally took the plunge and went for a
www.apple.com/macbookpro a couple days ago. I am still waiting for
delivery (apparently they need 2 weeks head start), but I have extensively
tested a friend's and have been very impressed - can not wait to get mine.

I see yes it is according to several sites like tomhardware. OTOH, to
be honest i can find a clear test telling me HOW MUCH FAST are that
models.
I find my computer very slow with Delphi 2007 and i expect solve with new
hardware (and maybe im wrong..)

Hey, what a coincidence!
Yesterday, I was "shopping" with a colleague as he's searching for a new laptop.
I felt in love with a macbook as well. *g*
However, I am not such a big laptop user, so I guess I will stick with a beautifully white, non-Pro
13,3" model.

Re:Notebook election

Hi Donald,
You might want to post what you are doing with D2007, and
approximtely how long it is taking. You may already be as fast
as you get. Or, maybe someone can tell you how to speed
things up.

I let the ide alone for a few seconds and use 1,2 Gb of virtual memory.
I know that will not be solved for a faster computer, maybe with a
smarter developer? <g>
Anyway, Im in general happy with my Delphi 2007 Pro, but the memory leaks are
incredible. I just do build and debug and when i see how much memory is
using that beast, get 1.2 or 1.3 gb and growing! The only solution is
close the ide and start over.
Theres reproducible steps to help Codegear developers to solve that? I
dont think so...
And all that over a clean windows xp (two weeks from installed) and
running only Delphi 2007 Outlook and firebird.
Best regards.

That's the one at the top of my wishlist.

What are you doing during this time? I use Delphi 2007 all the time
and I don't see that kind of memory usage. For instance, I have had it
running and have been using it for a day solid, and I am only just over
100K as reported by the TaskManger (a notoriously poor indicator of
actual
memory usage...) I wonder what the difference between our machines is
or what the difference in what we are doing is.
Does minimizing and restoring make a difference?
Mark Edington has plugged a whole lot of memory leaks over the last
year. I am surprised

I doubt if the 1.66 GHz Centrino or the Turion is faster.
They are probably cooler and hence more silent.

If you go for a core duo, I'd recommend a T7200, the extra 2 MB L2
cache really makes a difference.

Nick, believe me : nothing different, just using a computer. Using
outlook, using firefox, maybe winamp.. xananews, googletalk...i dont
know wich to point specially. :(
I see a lot of that post in the past starting with BDS2005 and i know
Codegear can do nothing with that kind of software behaviours, because
is almost imposible report why it happems.

Are you talking about the size of virtual memory, or memory used? I
talk about virtual memmory.

As i say, Delphi 2007 is a lot better previous edition, but i have that
memory leaks.
Sadly, i cannot report nothing special to Codegear and i know Codegear
cannot do nothing without report.

Mmm, bit i care about velocity so if that are the only diffs will
remain with my actual portable and wait for a bigger change. (more
$$$$).

You mean Delphi just sits there unused and this happens? Really? That
seems /very/ strange.
Quote

Virtual Memory allocated. that is the number most folks talk about, and
it is also the most misleading number. it is not memory actually being
used or "leaked", but memory that the OS has set aside for use by the
app. That memory isn't necesssarily an indicator of the memory being
/used/ by the app.

Well, I appreciate the information nonetheless.
