Recommendations for database

g'day everyone,
i've written an ISAPI DLL that does the following:
1. presents webpages to the client browser;
2. accepts images uploaded by the client, and parameters that go with those images;
3. does image manipulation of those images, and returns the transformed images
to the client;
4. does very simple accounting, and keep tabs on which user did what
manipulation how many times;
5. has a simple administration backend for adding and removing users, setting
their properties, and so on.
currently it stores all its persistent information in an INI file (gasp, shock
horror !). this was an intentional quick hack to demonstrate the product under
low load - I am fully aware of the synchronization issues.
now for the big step: to park the persistent data, and possibly the images, in a
database. i don't think i need to perform complex database manipulations.
i'm new to database work (not to Delphi), and only have Pro versions of Delphi.
what database solutions (database, drivers, components) would people here
recommend ?
TIA,
Mat

Re:Recommendations for database

If this is to be a robust application with a modest or greater number of
users (say ... 30 to 500 but not all hitting "submit" at exactly the same
time) then SQL Server is the best bet. It costs more on the front but is
relatively easy to use and support.

Re:Recommendations for database

Try DBISAM (www.elevatesoft.com ).

Re:Recommendations for database

I use the Firebird DB for most of my web stuff.

Re:Recommendations for database

Thanks everyone,
found out that M$ has a "SQL Server 2005 Express" that is "free".
it then comes down to a toss-up between that and Firebird.
thanks for your comments,
cheers,
Mat
