Windows NT Network Protocols - NetBui V TCP/IP

Dedicated IB Server with NT4 SP3 and IB 4.21 and the ICMP hotfix:   We have
experienced problems with TCP/IP on a midsized network (LAN/WAN 80 nodes
approx. with 40 connections using IB concurrently), however, we have now
forced NetBEUI and have seen a performance boost.  We have stopped the
massive thrashing of the drives.  Still testing but it seems like a good
decision for us so far!

Using Interbase, I switched from NetBui to TCP/IP on a WAN, and the
performance boost was incredible.  The product was unusable with NetBui,
and was a success with TCP/IP.

The Borland Interbase documentation recommends using the TCP/IP protocol
instead of NetBui as TCP/IP will provide better performance.
Is this really the case? If so, what sort of performance difference is
there? Will it make much difference on a small network of 5 PC's?
Thanks for any help.
