Re:ADO or ODBCExpress
ADO is Microsoft technology designed with MS SQL Server and MS Jet (Access)
in mind. So it will provide more functions and may be better realization than ODBC. However ODBC is also "native" for MS SQL Server. If you need great speed working with MS SQL Server, try OLEDB Direct from www.oledbdirect.com - it works with OLEDB interfaces and avoids ADO layer. //---------------------- Regards, Viatcheslav V. Re:ADO or ODBCExpress
If performance is important then ODBCExpress blows the socks off of ADO. I
performed some benchmarks comparing two identical ISAPIs -- one using ADO and the other ODBCExpress -- that inserted a record into a SQL Server 2000 table. After the 3 minute stress test the ADO ISAPI had inserted 86000 records into the table vs. 150000 records inserted by the ODBCExpress ISAPI. |

Re:ADO or ODBCExpress
OLEDB Direct can insert up to 100 000 records/second (look $(OLEDB
Direct)\Examples\SQLServer\1 000 000 rows sample) using bulk rowset. Of course, this depends on record size, computer etc. //---------------------- Regards, Viatcheslav V. Re:ADO or ODBCExpressQuoteWould you recommend ADO or ODBCExpress? I am currently also converting from FF to MS SQL (using the $49.95 MS SQL 2000 Developer Edition) and my total purchases to date to do so have been the following: 1. $49.95 for the MS SQL Develoeprs Edition. 2. About $50 or so for the Delphi Developer's Guide to ADO (from Amazon.com). Regards; Bob Dalton |
