arc

you need to upgrade to redhat 7.1 - i had the same problems under 7.0 that
dissapeared under 7.1

It seems that the client side cannot connect to the server side.

Could be lack of hostname or localhost in file /etc/hosts.equiv

Watch out for firewall type settings say in /etc/hosts.allow
/etc/hosts.deny or ipchains things that might disallow the connection.

Possibly

ibmgr -start -user sysdba -password <sysdba password>
(often sysdba password is masterkey (or if firebird password is in
/opt/interbase/SYSDBA.password file)

try running ibserver program directly,
/opt/interbase/bin/ibserver

see if it fails because some shared libraries cannot be found.

If it runs, try
telnet localhost 3050
see if you can talk to the server machine.

Just a few things to try, one of them might give a bit more into and
help indicate in a bit more detail what's going wrong.

Cheers
