Brush.Style not working, Delphi bug ?

I'm trying to use one of the brush styles with either TShape, or drawing
rectangles. . . I just don't get the pattern. I got the vertical pattern
once, but that was it. I tryed the simplest example shown in the on-line
help; it doesn't work.
is this a known bug ? or am I missing something else.

If you are sure the pattern and color are correct, then the problem
might be the video drivers. Try switching to plain VGA. If you still
have problems with VGA, then post the specifics of your problem.
