Out with the old.

This was a very hard thing to do. I finally had to clear out some of my
office shelf space to make room for more recent books. My wife said
she saw tears in my eyes as i added some of these to the pile. This was
the 4th and last pile. I did not think to take picturs of the first 3
piles. Take a look at the links of pile #4 below (same pile/different
angles). I am sure many of you will recognize many of these titles:

Yeah. That was a tough one to toss as was the Delphi 1 Rad Pack and
Optima++. Once all 4 piles were in the dumpster I had regrets and
wish that I'd have just bought some plastic storage bins and saved
them for that huge library that I am always planning to build some day.

How are you disposing of those? Any chance for a purchase?
Thanks,

I tried doing it several times myself, but couldn't bring myself to do
it, until we moved our offices. I made a promise to myself I'd only
unpack the books as I used them and if I didn't open them within a year,
I'd donate them to the local library. I was surprised the library didn't
want them, but the local high school took most of them. I did keep most
my hard cover books such as Numerical Recipes for Pascal.

This one I will never be able to throw away, not to mention Delphi 1
But I recently ditched a whole pile of books.
And magazines, had a pile of computer magazines that when twice
(believe it or not) from the floor to the ceiling.

Most of my computer magazines barely last a month. I have about 20 books
accumulated over the years, and a pile of CDs. Delphi 1-3 long gone,
although I found a copy of 4 the other day (CD and key only).

They went to the dump. Sorry. I guess I should have asked if anyone
wanted them. I'd have given them free for only the shipping.

Which dump? <g>
Maybe, you should have kept them 50 years,
and then given them to the Antique Software Museum! <g>

Re:Out with the old.

I don't see how you parted with them. I have one entire wall of 6 foot
bookcases
filled with technical books I just can not bear to part with. When faced with
lack of
space I bit the bullet and bought more and bigger bookcases. :-)
Unfortunately,
now they are full, and I have overflow everwhere, including a 3 foot stack
on my
desk. My dream is that someday I can find all of them as pdfs, so I can
still keep
them, but clear out a lot of books from my bookcases.

Well, I took them to the dump here on Whidbey Island but they transport
all garbage off island on barges... so I don't know where it ends up. I
would like to think somewhere in Seattle. They deserve my garbage. :-)

I saw "unleashed". Was that Delphi 2 Unleashed? In case, I'd never
throw it away in case I'd ever write some pure Win API again.
Charlie Calvert has a very good explanation of fundamental Win API
there, and that is probably not much dated, even today.
Danny Torphe's Writing Delphi Components will never be dated because it
deals with so many general design issues that probably will be actual
for years to come.
