AJC Active Backup will be featuring on Bits Du Jour on Tuesday 6th Feb for
one day only at 30% discount.

AJC Active Backup is a powerful Windows utility that instantly backs up any
file you change on your PC as soon as it is saved. Multiple versions of
each file are kept in a compact archive giving unlimited undo capabilities
and protection from costly mistakes or file corruption. This avoids
reaching for last night's backup, if there is one.

It has a built-in capability to compare each change you have made to a file
so you can see what has been done and when. Any historical version of a
file can be extracted by simply right clicking on a file or accessing it
from a convenient popup list of recent files changed. Comments can also be
entered against each revision so you can record important information about
what state the file was in at that point in time.
AJC Active Backup brings revision control to the average computer user or
user who is too busy to worry about doing backups. It is completely
automatic and requires no regular attention once the initial setup wizard
has been filled in. It operates in the background via a subtle indicator in
the Windows status bar with hardly any noticeable change to the computer's
performance.
The backup archives created are very compact because compression is used and
only the changes to each file are stored each time a new revision is added.
An automatic purge feature is included to stop the archives from growing too
large.
Whether you are a software developer, documenter or web designer etc, AJC
Active Backup is an important safety net for any PC user who values their
work. Even if you have a centralized revision control system and do regular
backups AJC Active Backup is of great value because it backs up every time
you save a file without you having to think about it. Your archive is
always up to date, whereas your other backups may be hours or days out of
date.

This is a good product with good support.
I have licenses for multiple machines and it has saved the day on more
than one occasion.
It was already inexpensive, so this discount pretty much makes it a
"must buy" item.

Thanks for the recommendation. How much overhead does it take? I'm
using a AMD X2 3800, will I notice the difference? Thanks.

Hi Luke,
As long as you choose your file patterns sensibly and don't backup unneeded
files you will hardly notice any overhead at all.
I use it for all source code, documents, spreadsheets and even small
databases and I don't notice it until I need it - which is the way it should
be :-)

I don't notice it at all and my system is much less powerful than yours.
It just sits there quietly doing it is job. As mentioned by Andrew in
his post, as long you as don't have it backing up multi-gig files it
shouldn't be an issue.
I have mine set to backup all document type files, spreadsheets, source
code, config files, etc.
I ignore "entertainment files" (movies, music, etc), large databases,
executables, etc.
My system is quite organized, so I really only backup a few primary
folders and their subfolders (ex: Company, clients, projects)
