Connecting to Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere 6.0

Hi,

Connecting to this version of Anywhere seem to be extremly slow compared to
the 5.5 version.

But if connecting directly through ODBC it works like a charm and is very
fast (Using ERwin to generate the metadata).

Any one got any ideas why?

What non-ODBC method did you use to connect to ASA6? ODBC is now a
native interface for ASA6, and you don't need to use a client
executable. See the help file's description of new features.

Well... I use the BDE and I know that, that one uses the ODBC connection,
but somehow this way of connecting to the database is very slow. I now takes
20 seconds whereas it used to take about 2 - 5  seconds in the 5.5 version
also using an ODBC connection through BDE.

What I am comparing to is using ERwin that does not use the BDE layer but
goes directly through the ODBC layer and that takes about 1 - 2 seconds to
connect, so an overhead of 10 times slower through the BDE seems quite
overwhelming to me.

I forgot to mention that I am connecting to a server running NT 4.0, on a
locan area network using NetBios - if this should give anoone any Ideas.

If running a singleserver on my local machine it actually connects faster
that connecting to the network server.

I removed the 5.5 version from my computer, and I only have the same ODBC
entry, and it says in the BDE Administrator that it is a ASA 6.0 driver that
is used. There is no sign of any DBCLIENT.EXE running as in the 5.5 version.

When connecting using the SQL Explorer it is the same situation, it takes
about 20 seconds to connect. If using both ERwin and Sybase Central it takes
1-2 seconds.

It beats me why!

Do you connect to same ODBC datasource from both BDE and ERWin?
Maybe you connect to one using the ODBC Anywhere 5.5 driver and to other
using the Anywhere 6 driver?
Does the BDE connection start up the dbclient.exe?
