I described a problem creating & using my Delphi 4 program with Paradox 7
tables.  You previously said that I might have an incorrect version of the
BDE.  I am receiving an error message that states "Merging the Configuration
File Has Failed".  When I check the BDE version information it gives me
5.0.0.38(2)
except for the BLW32.DLL file which is 3.0.0.3.  The IDAPI32.cfg file within
Install Shield Express has a version of 5.01.  I don't know whether these
are compatable or not.  Any ideas?  I do have a knowledge base article from
Install Shield Support Q100670 but this doesn't describe actions required in
enough detail

You may be having the same problem that I had.    When you install BDE
on a machine that already had an earlier version, Installshield
attempts to make a back-up of the existing BDE config. file before
merging any new entries into it.    I think it renames it to
Idapi32.bak or something similar (my memory is rusty).    However, if
a file of that name already exists, such as after a previous upgrade
or install attempt, then the rename fails, and you get the message
that you mentioned.   Usually the BDE itself is installed OK but any
new aliases that you specified are not added to the config. file.

This error can occur when the existing BDE config file is in use or corrupt.
You can delete the existing BDE config file and create a new one to get around
this.

Brian,

At one time I had installed the BDE on the target machine, then uninstalled
it.  After I re-installed the BDE the merge error was eliminated.  I guess
there was a pointer to the 'old' file which was empty.
