what do you mean by global solution? If you mean you do not want to
code it for aall your components, you could create an ADODataset
descendant with those 2 event handlers implemented to check the type of
the field and act as you want
To be more precise. Creating new component is an opiton.
However, to be reasonable to create new component, it need to comply several requests:
1. Since it is requirement of original project to be portable/usable to other using not the same Delphi and MDAC versions and need.
2. To fix all known/reported problems using Delphi ADO components throug all Delphi verion since D5.
3. To fix all known/reported problems may rise using different MDAC versions
Since my primary goal is to create working application, I have no time to apply all requests necessary to create suitable new component. In other words, creating new component based on Delphi's is not suitable just to apply few improvements I need. If that would be a case, I will be need to change most of current components in Delphi, as well as used third-party components.
If it is not possible to comply all requests, new component is not an valid option.
The TBetterAdoDataSet is reasonable base for creating new component, in order to comply upper requests, however component development was stopped by author long time ago (if not reactivate in the meantime).
That is reason why "global" solution is much more suitable. In means not to change component itself or create descendant nor using events for any instance of the component (avoiding extra code maintaince).
