Divide newsgroup sqlservers?

Hi,

I would like to suggest that the newsgroup sqlservers was divided into some
new newsgroups such as sqlservers.oracle, sqlservers.informix et c.
The point is that I am only interesting in Oracle related information and
don't care a single bit about informix, sybase... Then maby I get less
postings to browse through... Well what do you think? Bad suggestion, or?

Regards, Fredrik.

I could not agree more

Hi

Do you not think that some (many?) of the problems are common across all
databases. Take for example the question about how to use TUpdate for
changing more than one table at a time.

Re:Divide newsgroup sqlservers?

Hi,

I would leave b.p.d.d.s as it is, because Delphi is intended (although the
implementation is not 100%) to be database independant.  There are obviously
idiosyncracies of individual sqlservers and their drivers, but many problems
are also common.

Would this not mean that you would have to look in more newsgroups which
could take more time.  At least two:  a common one and a sqlserver specific
one.  I have also seen that folks are talking about a problem regarding a
specific sqlserver and it ultimately appears that the problem is BDE
related.  For example, I have seen folk talk about autoincrement problems
with Informix when the same problem can be experienced in most other RDBMS's
too with Delphi.  Does this not mean that you need to scan all the other
newsgroups if you don't find an answer in the other two?

One thing useful is when folk mention the specific sqlserver in the message
title if they suspect a sqlserver specific problem.

Re:Divide newsgroup sqlservers?

Hi,
I think this newsgroup is most related to the client side of C/S.
Most answers are valid to ANY server.

Best regards,
Remus

Re:Divide newsgroup sqlservers?

Many times I've seen crosspostings which obviously should be in only one
group.
And I've seen people asking winapi questions in the sqlserver group.
As long as we cannot guarantee that everybody is able to determine the
appropriate group,
we cannot split them into specialized pieces.

Good reasons given to keep it as it is. The problem lies more on us to make
sure that we write suitable subjects for our questions. And not
crossposting unless it is absolutely needed.
