Re: New machineQuoteBut how do you manage to burn your VM-disks on CD? remaining 0.8 Gig. Then delete that file. Now, when I compress the 2 Gig partition, I can easily bring it down to under 700 MB. The reason being that the 0.8 Gig of free space is not zero'ised (or whatever you call it) by VMWare when you create the partition. To get maximum mileage, I set the smallest virtual memory size I can get away with prior to writing the dummy file. For compression, I use lzop (www.lzop.org) as it is the fastest. No so good compression ratio but as long as it is under 700 MB, I am fine. Hope this helps. -- Regards Ray Mond "Erik Springelkamp" <XXXX@XXXXX.COM>writes QuoteThomas Mueller writes: |

XXXX@XXXXX.COM says... QuoteScout writes: The grumpy {*word*81} used his computer only for email, some WP, and possibly looking at pr0n, so any old '95 machine would have suited him well. As a non-developer and a keeper of the purse-strings, I think his attitude was wholly counter-productive. His attitude to company cars was similar: "As long as mine has a bigger engine and more toys than anyone else's, I don't care what you drive". Everyone is happy that he is gone. As regards end-user machines, our QA department has (at last count) 65 machines of differing specs and with the appropriate OS loaded. Everything gets tested on a "typical" end-user machine, and then again on the "worst" machine we can find that meets the minimum advertised requirement. Heck, there are even some 25MHz 486's in there. The new keeper of the purse strings has asked only that the screens get turned off when not in use. Scout |

I had a venue who insisted on using an old PC with Win95 installed, but could not get the correct version of MDAC to install on it without updating Internet Explorer first!?! Why oh why do we need the latest version of MS's web browser to enable us to connect to a SQL Server database?
