Connect Delphi5 to Sql Server 7 across the net

What is the best way to connect to a Sql server 7 database across the
internet? Do you connect thru a TCP/IP connection or something. Are
there any security issues with this connection? This is my first crack
at using Sql server across the internet. I have been using Delphi 3 with
Paradox/Access for a while and have just purchased Delphi 5 enterprise.
