Reading FAT and displaying its contents on the monitor2004-06-09 02:11:02 PM off-topic13 Hello, I'm not familiar with TASM, but I need to write a program that reads FAT and displays its contents on the monitor. I just need the source code. I think that doing so by TASM should be easy for expert programmers like those who are reading my question, so the source code or even a link to a page that contains it is highly appreciated. Please note that I'm not a TASM programmer so I need a complete source code. Thanks a lot for your replies, Steven P. |

If this is a school assignment, it's normally not done here! Here you're helped normally with concrete problems which are part of a program - not complete programs. As a start, I'd look for information how the fat is organized and how to do absolute disk reads. Both can be found via google search. For the later I'd advise you to get a copy of "Ralf Browns Interrupt List" and look up int 13hex in it. If you're more familar with some high level language (e.g. Pascal, C...) I'd suggest you'd program it first in this and translate it to asm then, so error finding/testing etc. is easier. Greetings and good luck Markus |
