Toshiba Portege/Window XP Tablet Edition2005-02-23 12:42:25 AM off-topic5 I've been told by the "Timeslips" software developers (Best Software) that the Borland Data Base, which is used by Timeslips, does not work on the Toshiba Tablet. Is that right, is Borland not compatable with Windows XP, Tablet Edition? |

Re:Toshiba Portege/Window XP Tablet Edition
David,
First, I've never tried running a BDE app on WinXP tablet edition. You might ask over on the Paradox Community groups ( nntp://pnews.thedbcommunity.com ) to see if anyone there is doing it. Next, FWIW: I'm running the BDE on Win95a, Win98, Win98SE, Win2K Pro, WinXP Home, WinXP Pro. No problems. All with one version of Paradox (the application) or another. I've even used MS Pen Extensions for Windows (the precursor to tablet) with P5-8 on Win3.x and Win95 and had no complaints from Paradox or the BDE. That said, for example, back in the mid 1990s, we had problems trying to run Paradox 8 (uses BDE) on IBM ThinkPads - it was very unstable. We never figured out why, there was just some kind of a conflict. Maybe the Timeslips folk have discovered some kind of conflict between a driver for this tablet PC and the BDE. There is no such thing as a "Borland Data Base". My guess is that the
Timslips folks were talking about the Borland Database Engine. Borland stopped doing any develpment or maintenance of the BDE many years ago, long before Tablet XP was released. I have never tried running the BDE on a table PC so I do not know if it works or not. -- Bill Todd (TeamB) TeamB cannot answer questions received via email {smallsort} |

to do anything special at all. Perhaps it is a particular hardware configuration thats the problem. Anyway from what I hear Best Software (you've got to love the arrogance of that name) are busy putting out the million and one fires with ACT 7 at the moment - it barely runs on anything other than a Cray.
