BDE Error code 9477

One of my end-users is experiencing Error Code 9477: Record size is to big
for table.
Every thing is working fine until the user adds a new TEXT field to his SQL
database table. At which point SQL is reporting the rowsize to be around
5800 bytes.
Firstly, what are the limits that are being crossed to cause the error code
9477 to be triggered and, secondly, can any of these limits be altered to
stop the error code from being triggered in this case.
