Where did this executable come from? I take it you didn't create it. A
google search for PurityScan2 turns up only two hits - both of which list
it as an Adware trojan.

Re:Re: OE Password cracker

I did a search for Outlook Express Password in Yahoo and downloaded it from
there. It seemed to be a free command line thing as far as I remember. Sorry
my antivirus software (avd and Norton) didn't spot it. I never tried running
it. I was keeping it to one side because what I really wanted was to read
outlook express passwords myself since several vendors seem to be able to do
it automatically.
Speaking of trojans, I just looked for cracks for one of my programs and
found a wide variety listed, all of which pointed to the same site, which
demanded I should a program (that looked like it was something to do with
sex) Looks like my software is safe for now :)

Re:Re: OE Password cracker

So, you have to upgrade to McAfee Antivirus which is very good for trojans.
Only Norton 2004 detects some trojans. Here is the trojan info:

Ah. I am using Norton 2001 which I cheated with and installed ("as new") on
my XP system. It doesn't seem to integrate well but all I seem to use it for
is Windoc anyway.

Real time trojan detector is ONLY on the new 2004 version of Norton
Antivirus.
Which btw is not so good as McAfee is. McAfee also scans malicious source
code.
It deleted me many .c files ... hehehe

OTOH if you run a decent firewall, trojans don't stand a snowflakes chance.

Re:Re: OE Password cracker

That's not true. For example adware trojans, just connects to web sites at
port 80 (web)
and send information. Firewall does not filter the web port. Otherwise you
would be unable
to view web pages.

Re:Re: OE Password cracker

My firewall (Outpost) checks to see what programs attempt to connect and
doesn't just restrict ports a la SME Linux.
